Valley Lower Schoolers took a break from book learning today to spend the day at the Detroit Zoo. Everyone had a great time, seeing the animals and riding the train. Valley parents enjoyed the opportunity to get together, watch the kids interact, and spend time together.
A special thank you to all of the Valley parents who chaperoned and walked with the kids today; Polly, Shannon, Theresa, "Uncle" Junior, Bill, Antonio, Summer.
A great time was had by all!! Check out our facebook page for all of the pictures!

What a weekend!!
Wow!! What a weekend it has been for our Valley family!! Tomorrow starts another school week, and I'm not sure where the time went!
Friday we had an amazing Fine Arts Night, showcasing the many talents of our Valley students. It was another great get together night with a variety of student art projects and collaberations and time for the parents to get together and catch up. The middle school production of Hatshepsut was awesome, the kids hard work really showed through!! They looked like they were having such a great time during the play. The beautiful voices of the Valley Chorus group through Shannondoe, One Moment in Time, and a spirited version of Hakuna Matata, were so great to hear. Then Valley middle schoolers Bleu and Trevor ripped through Led Zeppelin's Sunshine of My Love. Not to be outdone, the Valley band closed out the musical portion of the night with March of tde Bambist and the Valley Circle Munch.
Saturday night saw the first ever Valley Euchre Tournament. We had a great turnout at Alexander J's, who put on a great spread of appetizers and provided very helpful and friendly staff, with a mixture of Valley Alumni, Staff, Parents, Board Members, and Friends. We look forward to planning another one real soon, so keep an eye on the Valley Facebook page and here at the blog for details.
Valley Senior Becca Smith posed a double threat with an outstanding performance at the Senior Voice Recital at the Goodrich Methodist Church and an appearance on MLive on Sunday. The article recognizes Becca for her amazing achievements at Valley, of course we already knew how great she is but it's nice that the rest of the world can play catch up!! The weekend also saw the final three performances of Suessical the Musical staring Valley students Tori, Mia, Rowan, Kieran, and Liam. These five students performed a total of six shows, over two weekends, with this production being Tori and Mia's first performances with the Kidz Theater Kompany in Fenton. They all did such a great job and looked like they were having a great time at every show!! Thank you to all of the families that came out to support these five, I know they were all excited to see their classmates and families in the crowd.
Valley really is fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of Students, Parents, and Staff. Thank you all for everything you have done throughout the year for the school, our students, and our family. It is because of this that Valley really is more than a school, it is a family, a village, working together to make the best future possible for our kids.
THANK YOU!!!

Kite Day 2013
Valley teachers and Administration decided to bring back a former Valley tradition with amazing success!! Kite Day 2013 was held March 8 and was greeted by temperatures in the low 70's and sunshine. The Upper schoolers spent part of the morning putting together kites and then each were given a partner from the lower grades and sent out to play!!
It was such a great site to see the older kids interacting and leading their buddies, teaching them how to manage the kite lines and kites to see that they stayed in flight. Watching them all run around together and working together was just an amazing experience, one that was not lost on teachers and parents alike. This is what it means to be a part of the Valley family. Having the older students to work with and teaching the younger ones, guiding and helping them along, is one of the truly unique things about Valley. We really are more than a school or a community, we are a family.
Thank you to all who came to watch and join in the fun. And a HUGE thank you to Kaye and Minka, for all of their hard work in getting the supplies, as well as all of the teachers who took time out of their educational days to bring us back to our roots and make this possible. If it were not for you all, Valley could not be what it is.

A Note From A Valley Parent
It's always nice to hear from our parents, for them to share their stories of Valley. I recently received an email from Valley parent, Linda Merlo, this is her story...
The Value of Valley
It is very
difficult in just a few words to communicate how the decision to leave public
school and come to The Valley School, has changed my daughter’s life. How do you express the value of the
invaluable? Perhaps it is not something
that can be described in words, but what I can tell you is this… The staff, administrators and students here
create an atmosphere that is beyond “school”.
It truly is an extended family.
The Valley School is a safe, quiet, friendly and caring place to get a
great education and I am very glad my daughter attends the high school here.
Last year
at this time we were fighting the all-too-typical battle that so many families
face in the public school system. Rather
than using her energy to gain academic confidence and build lasting
friendships, my daughter faced days full of conflict and emotional abuse from
peers and bullying from students who were complete strangers. It was more than unacceptable, it was
dangerous. Every child deserves to go to
school in a place that values and appreciates them for who they are and
provides the support and care they need to reach their personal potential. I found that place for my child here at The
Valley School.
In the
short time that we have been here (less than 6 months), the change in my
daughter is measurable, both intellectually and physically. I cannot count the positive comments she has
received from family and friends regarding her transformation. People say, “She
looks and acts like a different person.” But I disagree. She is not a “different” person but rather
the “same” smart, confident, happy person she has always been on the
inside. It’s just that now the rest of
the world is able to see it too! Again,
perhaps I do not possess the talent to describe what this means in words, but
what I can express is my gratitude.
THANK YOU VALLEY! You have
changed our lives for the better and I am ever so glad we found you!
